There have been many cases of citizens, charged with serious crimes who fought back, and got to walk away with their freedom intact. For example:
G***** M**** was charged with murder in 1982. His two co-defendants were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, but after a year and a half in jail, he walked away a free man thirty minutes after the jury returned a verdict of NOT GUILTY.
M**** T*****, a California resident, in 1986 had the misfortune to be included on a superseding indictment in federal court in Baltimore, Maryland, alleging crimes of RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act) and drug distribution conspiracies. All of his co-defendants were convicted, but he got to fly home to his wife and his catering business after the jury found him NOT GUILTY.
C**** G****** was charged with murder when his wife died of a drug overdose in 1991. After two years in custody, he walked away a free man when the Minnesota Supreme Court agreed with the defense arguments and the charges were DISMISSED. See 490 NW2d 620
T**** R*** was subpoenaed in 2005 to be witness before a Hennepin County grand jury but found herself charged with her boyfriend with murder. After nine months in jail, she walked away a free woman after the jury returned a verdict of NOT GUILTY.
What did each of these fighters - all of whom won their criminal cases - have in common?
